Cortech USA® Continues to Make Successful Strides in Patent Case with Norix
United States Patent and Trademark Office agrees to reexamine ‘933 Patent

Willowbrook, IL – July 27, 2020: Over the past 3+ years, Cortech USA® has been vigorously defending what it believes to be a frivolous lawsuit based upon meritless allegations of patent infringement of United States Patent Number 9,661,933 (the ‘933 Patent).

Cortech has successfully had two of Norix’s claims dismissed outright, and, on June 30, 2020, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (“the Patent Office”) has agreed to reexamine the validity of the ‘933 Patent and whether it should have been allowed in the first place. This reexamination is largely due to the fact that their team failed to disclose relevant products, including their own molded beds with storage compartments that were being made and sold long before the application for the ‘933 Patent was filed. Based upon current statistics published annually by the Patent Office, there is an approximate 80% chance the claims of the ‘933 Patent will be invalidated or changed. Cortech will continue to vigorously defend itself in this litigation and is confident it will be vindicated against all claims.

Cortech will continue to provide innovative products and best practices in manufacturing and service to anticipate and satisfy the expectations of customers in the correctional and behavioral health markets nationwide.
